Tarring Market 2026

The historic Tarring Market, organised by St Andrew’s Church, once again brought the community together for a wonderful day of fun, fellowship and fundraising on Saturday 30 May 2026. The Market has a long and proud history dating back to 1444, when a Royal Charter was granted for the holding of a market in Tarring. While it has evolved from its origins as a flourishing corn market into the much-loved community event we enjoy today, it continues to be an important part of village life.

Thanks to the time, talents and hard work generously offered by so many volunteers, and a little help from the weather, Tarring Market 2026 was a tremendous success. There was a que lining up at the gates to see the Worthing Town Crier, Bob Smytherman, open the event, and once the stalls opened and crowd arrived there was a wonderful atmosphere around the Old Palace grounds.

Inside the Old Palace there was plenty to enjoy. The ever-popular Bottle Tombola proved to be one of the highlights of the day, with every bottle finding a new home. The cake and preserves stalls were also extremely busy, showcasing the baking skills, creativity and generosity of members of the congregation. Their hard work was greatly appreciated by the many visitors keen to sample and purchase the delicious homemade produce. The chocolate tomola offered a chance to win a sweet treat while the refreshments area served tea, coffee and homemade cakes, cafe style with table in the solar and outside.

Elsewhere around the Market, there was plenty to enjoy, including the plant stall, book stall, a barbecue, licensed bar and an ice cream van. Inside the large marquee, visitors browsed the annual bric-a-brac, Knit and Natter and gift stalls, while many also tried their luck in the Grand Draw. Families were well catered for with a lively children's area featuring games, face painting and a popular pick-and-mix stall.

All of these with the wonderful musical backdrop of live entertainment from the Worthing Silver Band and High Street Harmonies.

Events such as Tarring Market rely on the dedication and goodwill of a great many people. The organisers would like to extend their sincere thanks to everyone who contributed to the day's success, whether by serving on a stall, donating goods, helping with set-up and clear-up, providing entertainment, purchasing tickets for the Grand Draw, or simply coming along to support the event. Every contribution, however large or small, helped make the day such a memorable occasion.

The continued enthusiasm, generosity and support shown by the congregation and wider community ensure that this historic tradition remains as vibrant and relevant today as it has been for generations.

Proceeds from the Market will help support the ongoing maintenance and ministry of the beautiful Parish Church, enabling St Andrew's to continue serving the parish for many years to come.
