Funerals
Losing someone we love is one of the most difficult experiences any of us face. In the days following a bereavement there can be many decisions and arrangements to make, often at a time when emotions are already heavy. AtSt Andrew’s we are here to offer support, guidance and care as you plan a funeral for your loved one.
We offer funeral services in church at St Andrew’s, whether you are planning a large gathering of family and friends or a smaller, quieter service. Our clergy also conduct funerals at the crematorium and work alongside the funeral director you choose to help ensure everything is arranged with sensitivity and respect. We are also able to arrange the burial of ashes in the churchyard for those who wish to have a lasting place of remembrance.
A Christian funeral service is a time to acknowledge loss, to give thanks for a life that has been lived, and to commend a loved one into God’s care. During the service there are opportunities to remember and celebrate a unique life, through words, prayers, readings and music. Our clergy will take time to listen to you and help shape a service that honours the person you are remembering.
Sometimes families feel they have not had the opportunity to say goodbye in the way they hoped. If a loved one has had a direct cremation, or if you would like a service at a later date, we can also help arrange a memorial or thanksgiving service at St Andrew’s.
Usually the first step in organising a funeral is to contact a funeral director, who will then speak with the clergy to arrange a suitable date and time for the service. After this has been arranged, one of the clergy will meet with you to talk through the details and offer support. If you would like to discuss a memorial service or the burial of ashes, you are welcome to contact us directly.
Please know that our care does not end with the funeral itself. We remain here to support you in the weeks and months that follow, should you wish us to walk alongside you in your bereavement.
