Meet the Flower Team
I’m Gill and am privileged to lead the Flower Team here at St Andrews.
The team consists of myself, Peggy, Jill, two Pats, Shobha and Janet and we meet each Friday morning to arrange the flowers and if we have time pick up a dustpan and brush to do some cleaning. We always finish with coffee and a natter.
I source the flowers from the wholesalers in Brighton as I know they are fresh and of good quality and will last a couple of weeks. The main arrangements are at the altar and the Lady Chapel kindly sponsored by members of the congregation. The Mothers Union sponsors the Paschal Candle. We are grateful for all of your support. Other flowers throughout the church are recycled from previous weeks.
The three festivals a year (Christmas, Easter and Harvest) are more challenging and we seek extra help from members of the congregation and from flower arranging friends that we know and we manage to put on a great display which I hope you all enjoy.
As we all appreciate in these times everything is increasing in price so the funding for flowers has become more difficult. Our dear friend Mike came up with the idea of a plant sale to raise money; for the past two years this has been very successful all due to his hard work and expertise. Thank you Mike.
If anyone would like to pop along on a Friday morning to learn a little about flower arranging, bearing in mind that none of us are trained florists and have learnt as we go along, we would be please to see any new faces.
Our flowers are paid for each week by generous donations usually in memory of loved ones. We are in need of some more sponsors, if you would like to support the church flowers financially then contact me - gilltreagus@gmail.com.
